A DR plan means accelerated recovery times Every company has a downtime tolerance, translated as the amount of time a business can be disrupted before the bottom line is significantly impacted. Organizations that need to be up and running as soon as possible but don't have a DR plan in place run the risk of losing hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of dollars in revenue. In 2020, the average downtime for an outage was 79 minutes, and with the cost of downtime now averaging $84,650 U.S. per hour, there can be a significant financial impact. 3 A well-developed disaster recovery plan is proactive instead of reactive. DR manages to significantly reduce the amount of time needed to recover from a disastrous event by providing the technology backing for cross-team and cross-department collaboration and transparency in order to recover from downtimes and outages faster. This translates to decreased downtime and less data loss security regulations. DR reduces the risk of a cyberattack An unexpected outage can result in protective mechanisms shutting down, leaving sensitive information and systems vulnerable to a breach. More specifically, downtime enables cyberattacks like data exfiltration to take hold of the system more easily with preventative mechanisms like authentication/authorization and endpoint detection out of play. This happens when malware or a malicious actor (or both working in tandem with one another) carries out an unauthorized data transfer from a computer. A well-defined disaster recovery plan accounts for what happens when those protective defenses go offline and puts into play a process of events that end up protecting sensitive information and vulnerable systems before it is too late. 2 3 77% of ransomware attacks now involve a threat to leak exfiltrated data, UP 10% COMPARED WITH THE FINAL QUARTER OF 2020. 4 3 Russel, Dave & Buffington, Jason.
