Gartner has put forth several recommenda ons for CIOs including: Gain experience in selec ng, monitoring and managing cloud service providers by first subscribing for services that do not involve protected health informa on (PHI). Pay close a en on to cloud subscrip on licensing agreements. IT procurement professionals will be challenged to nego ate be er deals, as they have in the past, using perpetual licensing rights and en tlements. Use the same criteria for establishing a trusted rela onship with a cloud service provider that you would for a remote hos ng arrangement. Don't do business with any cloud service provider that will not sign a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) or adhere to a regional regulatory counterpart, such as the European Data Protec on Direc ve 95/46/EC.
